Drywall and Paint Scraping – 01/06/2007

When we came to the house on Saturday evening to scrape paint, the drywall had gotten it’s first coat of finishing.

The future locations of the kitchen built-in on the left and fridge and counter space on the right.

Where the kitchen sink will go.

Where the sink and toilet will go.

The crazy laundry addition.

Our wonderful friend Irena came to help us scrape paint! She did an excellent job on the door that Patrick had gotten frustrated with. And to our surprise she even told us to save the rest of the door for her for next time!

Drywall Goes Up – 01/05/2007

Yay! This is really exciting. The drywall people were here today. The place looks sooo different now. We are so used to seeing the attic-like-walls with exposed 2x4s and wires hanging everywhere. This completely changes the feel of everything. This will be another long post because we were just so excited about documenting the drywalled place.

Looking at the bathroom wall where the toilet and sink will be.

The bath built-in and the location of the shower faucets.

We asked them to leave a space open above the bath built-in so we can utilize it for more storage.

The white sheetrock is regular sheetrock, the blue one is waterproof and placed nearby the bathtub.

Looking at the laundry wall and towards the back door.

Looking at the laundry wall and fuse box wall.

Fuse box and looking through the kitchen to the dining room.

View from kitchen towards laundry room.

View from kitchen towards dining room, showing the newly re-constructed butler’s pantry arch.

In kitchen looking towards future location of fridge and counter top space.

Ok, I realize I don’t look too thrilled in this picture, but I literally just got the paint off a difficult built-in corner that I had been attempting to get off for days, so despite the misleading picture I was quite extatic.

Now that the drywall is up we’re a little bit worried about the HVAC duct vent in the kitchen. Once the molding goes on we think the vent could possibly be too close to the wall. I guess we’ll see.

Westview Atlanta Website

We just setup another website. It is all about the Westview neighborhood – where our bungalow is actually located. You can check it out at www.westviewatlanta.com. We hope to add a lot more info to it as we learn more about the neighborhood and it’s history.

Bath and Windows – 01/04/2007

Alright, I know it’s just starting to look like I’m reposting old images, but I swear this is a new image. The bathtub has been put back in place, but has not been fastened in any way. Can’t wait to see where this will take us next…

The glass people came out to replace some of the broken and missing windows. We had to put a hold on some of the cracked windows for budget reasons, so will have to live with those for a little longer.

I know it doesn’t show very much, but here we are working on the weights in the windows again. The windows work with a pulley system and have weights hanging on the side to let them slide up and down. The majority of the cords hooked to the weights have been cut and need to be replaced throughout the house.

Week Thirteen – 01/03/2007

One step forward, two steps back…

The bathtub that had been concreted in crooked was taken back out.

Bathtub in the hallway…so sad. We just hope there wasn’t any damage to the tub when it was taken back out…

The good news was that the electrician had come back to make some minor changes we had asked for.
